Finding the Right Fit: Recruiting with Core Values

October 21, 2024/in GovCon, Human Resources /by Amanda Martin

As a corporate recruiter, my job is more than just filling positions—it’s about finding the right people who not only have the technical skills we need but also vibe with our company’s core values. These little gems are the heartbeat of a company, and they play a huge role in attracting and keeping the right talent. They also set the company’s tone and hold us accountable. In today’s competitive job market, it’s super important to connect with individuals who resonate with our core values and culture—those who will thrive all the while helping the company grow.

One of the main things I focus on is how well candidates align with our core values. I want to know if they see our company as more than just a paycheck. I want to attract individuals who are passionate about our mission and truly love the company, just as I do.

Sure, many candidates are drawn to jobs for the paycheck or the appeal of 100% remote work. Those are valid points, but I’m really after people who want to be part of a dynamic “BOSS LADY VIBE” company culture. When employees share our values, it leads to better collaboration, creativity, and overall job satisfaction.

During the interview process, I make it a point to ask questions that help me understand their motivations and work ethics. I want to get a sense of who they are and what drives them. I evaluate to see if they can:

  1. Be a person who Genuinely Cares?
  2. Be dependable and can Get Shit Done?
  3. Smell of drama or are they a No Asshole kind of person?
  4. Be a Trusted Partner & Advisor to my fellow tribe and our clients?
  5. Thrive in a Dynamic Environment AKA consulting?
  6. Be mindful and Know Your Audience?

My goal is to find candidates who are excited about joining our community—not just looking for a job.

By filtering out those primarily focused on salary or remote flexibility, I can focus on candidates who are eager to thrive in a workplace that matches their own values. It’s all about finding your people who will enhance our company culture and bring their unique strengths to the team.

In a nutshell, my role as a corporate recruiter goes beyond just filling roles. I’m passionate about building a team that shares our core values and is dedicated to our mission. Together, we can create an environment that reflects our values and supports everyone’s growth. I am always on the lookout for extraordinary individuals who will help us GET SHIT DONE!
