GovCon March Madness: 2025

March Madness is one of the most exciting times of the year!  In the GovCon world, the madness started before March.  With shifting rules, new players, and constant change, contractors must be just as adaptable as tournament teams. 

March Madness brings next-level sports excitement – upsets, buzzer-beaters, intense competition, rooting for the underdog, bracket challenges, and the thrill of not knowing what each game will bring.  Any team can win and create unforgettable moments. In GovCon, the same adaptability can make or break your success. What lessons can you apply from the court to your business? 

Preparation is important, but pivot if necessary.  

Coaches spend countless hours analyzing their opponents, studying game film, and developing game plans. In the tournament, any game can quickly change, and anyone can win.   

With the current GovCon environment, be prepared to pivot at a moment’s notice. Look at opportunities in different agencies, revive your partnerships, think outside the box, and develop a different game plan.   

Focus on fundamentals and strengths to remain competitive.  

Basketball teams have strengths and weaknesses, and the best coaches tailor their game plans to highlight their team’s strengths. Right now, government contractors should concentrate on areas of expertise, know their differentiators, and focus on team strengths, even if the current landscape hasn’t affected their company.  

Just like a strong basketball team relies on fundamentals, GovCons need a solid operational foundation to stay competitive.  A good team has to start with a good foundation – back to the basics.
