Is it Time to Bring in a Third-Party Investigator?

October 21, 2024/in GovCon, Human Resources /by BOOST

Let’s face it, if you have employees, it’s only a matter of time before you have employee relations issues. And handling employee issues can be complicated, draining, and time-consuming, especially when it comes to investigating the situation. It may be time to bring in a third party to help handle these issues, and here’s why:

  • Expertise: External investigators often specialize in conducting investigations and may have more experience and training in handling sensitive or complex cases.
  • Resource Availability: Internal HR or legal teams might be overstretched or lack the necessary resources to conduct a comprehensive investigation.
  • Confidentiality: An external investigator may better maintain confidentiality, as they are not part of the internal company network. This is especially important in cases involving sensitive information or high-profile employees.
  • Objectivity and Impartiality: An outside investigator is not connected to the organization, reducing the risk of bias. This ensures that the investigation is fair and impartial, which is crucial for maintaining trust among employees and avoiding potential conflicts of interest.
  • Credibility: It shows that the organization is committed to a thorough and unbiased process.
  • Focus on Core Business: By outsourcing the investigation, internal resources can remain focused on their regular duties, minimizing disruption to the organization’s operations.
  • Avoiding Retaliation: In cases where the accused employee holds a position of power, an outside investigator can reduce the risk of perceived or actual retaliation against other employees who participate in the investigation.
  • Legal Compliance: External investigators are often well-versed in relevant laws and regulations, ensuring that the investigation complies with all legal requirements. This is particularly important in cases involving potential legal action.
  • Fresh Perspective: An outsider may identify issues or concerns that internal investigators might overlook due to familiarity with the company’s culture or processes. A fresh perspective can lead to a more thorough investigation.

At BOOST, our HR team will help navigate your employee relations issues, whether it’s conducting an investigation or guiding you through different scenarios, we will ensure that your organization handles these issues properly. Contact us if you would like to learn more!
