Unlocking GovCon Success: The Key Role of Interview Training for Hiring Managers

Get to Know Your Peers: Albert Darlington, Client Relationship Manager

During an interview with our very own Albert Darlington, we discovered the following:

How do you survive the heat in the summer? Ice cream (Dutch Chocolate or Carl’s in Fredericksburg, VA)

Favorite Pizza: Costco Pepperoni 😀

Favorite School Supply Item: My favorite school supply item is a four-color Bic pen with the four clickers. It was the precursor to the fidget spinner IMHO.

Interesting Facts About Yourself: I have a ginormous music collection, but very limited musical talent. But, I have a host of siblings with significant musical chops. The Chris Darlington Band is a good show.

I lived in India for a while, for work. What I observed there was employment – work – was the one thing that might provide an escape from significant poverty. When I returned to the states, I spent essentially the next two decades focused on putting people to work, and completed my dissertation research on how to help people with barriers to employment find and be successful in work.

Do you have any HR advice for GovCons? GovCons should get in front of policy choices that are wise for their size but connected to the goal of being an organization they want to work in. When it comes to Employee Relations, at every stage of interaction, it’s valuable to consider potential cost almost as much as expected cost. Hidden expenses in the way of engagement costs, morale, or just the general work of responding to complaints or investigations can be time consuming and fraught with impacts to productivity. Managing risk associated with employee relations matters by taking time, thought and intention can ultimately be a lot less headache and cost.

Albert was also recently featured on the Breaking the Standard podcast to discuss workplace culture, getting to a new normal and what’s changed in the last few years. Albert offers some great insight into things to consider before expanding your business. Don’t miss out on this episode and click the link below to listen!
